"THE NECESSITY FOR
A FAITH IMAGE"
MINI-REVIEW FROM LAST ISSUE
GOD'S ULTIMATE GOAL FOR YOU IS TRANSFORMATION
Your salvation, though a spiritual encounter initially, deals with the whole of your being -- body, soul, and spirit. The work of the Holy Spirit permeates every area of your life.
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and all things have become new!"
2 Corinthians 5:17
The process of change which takes place in your life after being born again begins to affect every area of your life. It is a process of change towards a very specific goal. The Scripture teaches you in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that "we are being transformed into Christ's image".
"For whom He foreknew, He predestined to to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren;..."
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THE FATHER GOD FOR EVERYONE WHO BECOMES A CHRISTIAN AND ENTERS INTO HIS KINGDOM.
YOU ARE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND
A major part of "working out" what God has done in you begins by changing your thinking. The way you think as a Christian and what you let your mind dwell upon has a great bearing on your spiritual growth and stability. Your responsibility to think right as you work out what God has put in you is seen in the following Scripture:
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."
"As a man thinks within himself, so he is."
How you are today is a direct result of how you have thought up to this point in time. What you feel and experience now has been conditioned by what you have let your mind dwell upon, even today.
The sort of person you will be in the future depends on how you think from this point forward. Make a conscious decision to work with God by filling your mind with his thoughts so that it can be your boast that:
"As He is, so also are we in this world."
1 John 4:17
DEVELOPING A "FAITH IMAGE" IS A NECESSITY IN WINNING THE "BATTLE FOR YOUR MIND"
WHAT IS A FAITH IMAGE?
To answer that question we need to define the terms "faith" and "image".
First. "Image" -- a mental representation, a mental picture, a vision, an idea, or a conception. For this study we will define an image as the internal picture of yourself that you paint on the screen of your imagination. Notice that the painter is "YOU". Remember, "as a man thinks within himself, so is he."
Also understand this -- the imagination is the most powerful part of your God-like creative powers. The image you have of yourself on the screen of your imagination is what you can and will become. There is a saying that goes like this -- "what you see is what you get". In the world of the faith image this is a true concept.
Second. "Faith" -- according to Hebrews 11:1 it is firm persuasion and expectation that God will do what He has spoken and covenanted to do in His word to us.
Hebrews 11:1 -- Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
Faith is simply hearing or seeing what God has said to us and then acting as though it is true.
Therefore, we can define a "faith image" as the picture in our imagination of what I am certain that I am and will become in God based upon the unchanging truth of His covenant word to me.
For you to develop a strong faith you must have something to anchor that faith to before you will have the extreme confidence to act as though it is true before you see it. That thing that you have as your anchor is the understanding that Christianity is not a religion, but a covenant relationship with the living God. Without knowing you are in covenant with God you will not confidently act as though His words are true, you will only apprehensively hope they are true.
THE REAL YOU
Proverbs 23:7-- "For as he thinks within himself, so he is"
Proverbs 29:18 -- "Where there is no vision, the people perish,..."
Ephesians 3:20-21 -- "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,..."
Without a vision (or goal)the human being is not MOTIVATED to achieve his full potential in life. Our faith image should be a vision of what we are or what we will become based upon what God says we are and what we will become. It becomes a motivating force in our life to achieve the full potential of what we really are because of our covenant relationship with the living God of the universe. He has put His Holy Spirit into us so that we are actually IN UNION WITH HIM to accomplish His purposes upon this earth. Can you even conceive of the possibilities that creates in our lives? It takes a revelation of God's greatness to motivate you to envision something beyond your own natural resources and abilities and God has given us that revelation in His word.
As God's covenant people, we need to use our imaginations to envision what God can and will accomplish in and through our lives. If your asperrations are based upon what God has truly spoken to your heart either by His Word or by His Spirit you can attain them.
Remember the woman that had the hemmorhage of blood in Matthew 9:20-22? She had a faith image of being healed if she simply touched the garment Jesus was wearing. When she did press through the crowd and touched Him, she was instantly healed.
What you focus your imagination upon is what you become. You must see what you CAN be BEFORE you will become what you see. See yourself as mature and complete in Christ and you will then be motivated to move towards the fulfillment of that vision.
Mark 11:22-24 -- "Have faith in God. Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you."
BE WHAT YOU ARE!
You are everything God wants you to be now or will become in the future IN SEED FORM.
1 Peter 1:23 -- "for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable,..."
Use your imagination to envision the fulness of what you are in Jesus and what He is in you.
THINK IN LINE WITH THIS FAITH IMAGE OF YOURSELF; ACT UPON IT; AND YOU WILL START TO BECOME IT
FEED YOUR FAITH IMAGE
Romans 10:17 -- "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ."
Faith grows in you as you hear and act upon the words of God that come to your through His Word and by His Spirit within you.
WHAT DOES GOD SAY THAT I AM?
2 Corinthians 5:17 -- Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."
A NEW CREATURE
Romans 8:14 -- "For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God."
A SON OF GOD
Romans 8:16 -- "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."
A CHILD OF GOD
Romans 8:37 -- "But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us."
AN OVERCOMING CONQUEROR
WHAT DOES GOD SAY I CAN DO?
Philippians 4:13 -- "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO YOU
John 15:5 -- "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit;..."
YOU ARE IN VITAL UNION WITH HIM AND PRODUCE MUCH SPIRITUAL FRUIT
WHAT DOES GOD SAY THAT I HAVE?
Philippians 4:19 -- And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
ALL OF YOUR NEEDS ARE SUPPLIED
There are many more scriptures that tell you what you are, what you can do, what you have, etc. What I have given to you above is simply a sampling. God through your Bible are write down all the verses you can find that tell you what you are, what you have, and what you can do through your covenant relationship with God through Jesus. These verses will be identified by terms such as "in Him", "by Him", "through Him", etc. After you have written out these verses of Scripture, read them over many times, think about them, picture them applying to you in your imagination, dwell upon how they apply to you, think about how to act upon them, etc. By doing this you begin to build these images into your consciousness so that they become a part of you. Afterall, "as He is, so are we in this world."
The reason we need to develop this faith image is because we need to see ourselves as we really are because of the covenant relationship we have with God through Jesus. You have been trained and programed by your life in the kingdom of darkness to think wrongly about yourself. Now that you have been born again your thinking has to change. God's desire for you is transformation to be like Jesus and this can only come about as we change the image we have of ourselves on the inside -- on the screen of our imagination. Can you see yourself being, doing, and acting like Jesus? That is God's desire for you.
By developing your faith image of yourself, you are then able to defeat the thoughts that Satan, demons, people, and the world systems bombard your mind with telling you how to think, talk, act, and believe. You repell those thoughts and replace them with the thoughts based upon your faith image causing you to be "overwhelmingly more than a conqueror through Him who strengthens you".
I hope this material will prove to be beneficial to you as you press forward in your walk with the Lord of the Universe.
Until next month, remember, "as He is, so are we in this world."
